\nHello Everyone,<\/p>\n

I have been volunteering with various networks in Japan, providing translation work and relief efforts from afar.
\nThe current reality is this: Red Cross and large organizations have been successfully collecting funds, but much needed relief work have not reached some areas in dire need. Some evacuation sites have been provided with ample of supplies and medical assistance. Some have received reasonable amounts to survive, while some have NO ACCESS to these resources due to political road blocks.<\/p>\n

Last night I came across a particularly disturbing situation.<\/p>\n

45 elderly evacuees in Fukushima needs URGENT help.
\nThey have been denied access into evacuation centers due to their physical condition.<\/p>\n

*The majority of these elderly have dementia and Alzheimers
\n*They must stay together as a group so that the care taker, Suzuki san is able to care for them
\n*They have asked for help from the City of Fukushima, but were denied as they do not live in an evacuation site
\n*They have moved from location to location, starting from Tomioka Machi, 9km away from nuclear plant.
\n*They finally moved into an old apartment kindly offered by a local doctor.<\/p>\n

They desperately need the following items immediately:<\/p>\n

*Adult diapers (especially urine pads)
\n*Food (Does not have to be preserved foods as they have a functional kitchen)
\n*Underwear
\n*Clothing (Particularly lighter clothing as it is getting warmer but they only have the heavy clothes that they wore as they evacuated)
\n*Toilet paper, diaper wipes<\/p>\n

\nI spoke to the contacts today. Trucks can go in without any problem, and if shipping them, we can use all types of couriers (JP post, Yamato, Sagawa).<\/p>\n

The caretaker, Suzuki san’s intent is to no longer move these elderly people. It is a long term project– all essential life items are needed. They are currently using cloth as diapers. No elderly person should have to live their last days in this condition.<\/p>\n
