MEMO-032111-A<\/strong><\/p>\n

Memo – Received by Rescue Japan Staff Member from her friend in Miyagi:<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>I managed to get hold of a friend of mine in Aoba-ku, Sendai. He is a professor at miyagi Education University. His place is in the University campus on top of the mountain.
\n*they have power, but no water and no gas
\n*he has been eating 2meals a day- he was eating vacuum packed rice and soup which he found in the debris
\n*no Internet , no TV. Radio and telephone are the only information source
\n*it seems things are getting better in the downtown Sendai – lunch boxes being sold, a supermarket is open (100 people are queuing for it)
\n*there were several refuge centers in Aoba-ku but many people were not able to get in due to overcapacity
\nNow as the situation is getting settled, people, who have a place to return to, are leaving the centers.
\n*food at centers goes quickly
\n*People living within *30km-50km radius from the nuclear stations are now getting worried. No accurate information from government officials
\nTrucks refused to go in there to deliver stuff.
\n*He is very concerned about mental support for kids. Many kids witnessed cars and people were washed away by tsunami. Kids know they have to be ‘good’ while staying in the refuge centers which give them extra pressure. Teachers are not able to spend much time with them. In order to rebuild their\u00a0life, as well as town, we need these kids survive healthy, mentally and physically. We need a lot of specialists to look after the kids

\n<\/strong>-gum boots (ground is muddy and cold)
\n-socks
\n-blankets
\n-tight gloves
\n-warm clothes (jumpers, snow jackets)
\n-underwear<\/p>\n
